Over 200 people enjoyed a family fun-day in Balby this week when sumo-wrestlers and a rodeo bull took over Waverly Avenue Bull Ring on Tuesday 2nd August.
Local housing association Guinness Northern Counties and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough council organised and hosted the day along with South Yorkshire Housing who helped to fund the event.
All of the activities on offer were free for local families and included lots of exciting have-a-go activities such as laser quest, a bungee run, and a climbing wall as well as Art in the Park. Refreshments were on offer throughout the event.
Army cadets and the local police and fire service also attended with a driving simulator and offered tours of the engines and police cars.
Community spirit continued the following day as an environmental day and garden competition were organised in conjunction with the fun day, involving litter picking and filling skips with large unwanted household items.
The ‘Success Doncaster Bus’ made the fun day one of its tour stops to provide advice and support in a bid to encourage more people to sign-up to their programme which aims to develop economic growth.
Brian Hamlin, Community Investment Manager at Guinness Northern Counties, said: It was really good to work Doncaster council again on this project. Over 200 people have turned out for this event, it’s been a great success and we’re looking forward to working together with them on the next event!”
