Halloween craft sessions held for Darnhill children (26/10/2011)

Over 50 local children turned out yesterday for Halloween themed craft workshops which took place at Darnhill Library to carve pumpkins and make spooky garden mobiles and birdfeeders.

The workshops were organised by local registered charity the Darnhill Festival Association (DFA) and also included a bulb planting workshop and other art and craft activities.

Local housing provider Guinness Northern Counties, who work closely with the DFA, supported the event by providing a BBQ and refreshments, as well as a drumming workshop, to coincide with Black History Month.

Pumpkins were available to purchase carved, or uncarved, with all money raised going towards the Darnhill Festival 2012, a hugely popular community event in the area that takes place each summer and winter.

Both the DFA and Guinness Northern Counties provided volunteers for the workshops.

Children could take home anything they made on the day.

Leila Poricka, Guinness Northern Counties Housing Manager in the area, said:

β€œThe event was hugely successful and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the activities. We are extremely proud of the Darnhill Festival Association and their hard work has made the day a memorable one.”
