A much loved family fun day that was on the verge of being cancelled went ahead this Saturday (3/9), thanks to local housing association Guinness Northern Counties.
Over 350 people attended the event at Eldon Road playing fields, which was free to all and offered various activities, including laser quest, a mechanical rodeo bull, football coaching, a bouncy castle and inflatable slide as well as live music, stalls and a fun fair.
Guinness Northern Counties stepped in when they heard the Eastwood Fun Fest, organised for the last six years by Eastwood Village Community Association, could not go ahead due to lack of funds.
The housing provider pledged £2,000 and helped find enough additional support to make sure the event would happen. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Together Housing Group and South Yorkshire Housing have also helped to fund and organise the day.
Brian Hamlin, Community Investment Manager at Guinness Northern Counties, has been working with the Community Association to help plan the event. He said: “The event has been a huge success with families in the area. There really has been something for everyone here today, it’s been great. Thanks to everyone involved, it’s good to see the hard work and effort everyone put in to something like this pay-off, and the happy faces here today are payment in full!”
